The difference between thermal silica and thermal grease

Reading Volume: 【 2776 】 Time: 【 2018-01-08 】
Although the performance of thermally conductive silicone and thermally conductive silicone grease are very similar, the manufacturing process is similar, but a viscous substance is added to the formula to make it have better bonding performance. But there are still differences between the two. Do not confuse or misuse the two when using.
Friends who have not touched this industry may think that thermally conductive silicone and thermally conductive silicone grease are the same product. In fact, they are not. Although they are different by one word, they are very different. Although they are both thermally conductive materials, their performance is still different. Let's distinguish the difference between thermal silica gel and thermal grease.
Thermal silica:
Thermally conductive silicone is also called electronic silicone. It can be cured at room temperature, but its thermal conductivity is slightly weaker than thermally conductive silicone grease, but its bonding performance is much stronger. It is widely used for elastic bonding, heat dissipation, insulation and sealing in electronics, electrical appliances and other industries. The following are the advantages of thermal silica:
1. Good thermal conductivity and insulation, improve the reliability of sensitive circuits and components, and extend the service life.
2. Insulation, shock absorption, impact resistance, wide working temperature and humidity range (-50℃~+180℃).
3. Weather resistance, chemical corrosion resistance and heat resistance.
4. Outdoor use can avoid the adverse effects of ultraviolet light, ozone, moisture and chemicals.
Thermal Grease:
Thermally conductive silicone grease is used for gap filling and heat transfer between high-power transistors, switch tubes, integrated circuits and other chips and heat sinks. It has excellent thermal conductivity, high temperature resistance, anti-aging, waterproof, insulation and other characteristics. It is insoluble in water, not easy to be oxidized, and has excellent electrical insulation properties. It protects the circuit while conducting heat and improves the stability of the circuit. Thermally conductive silicone grease is currently the most widely used thermally conductive material in the electronics and electrical industry. The following are the advantages of thermal grease
1. It can work for a long time in the temperature range of -50~300℃, its consistency changes very little when the temperature changes, and it does not melt at high temperature, does not harden and does not freeze at low temperature.
2. It has no corrosive effect on iron, steel, aluminum and its alloys and many synthetic materials; it does not swell to plastics and rubber.
3. Non-toxic and tasteless.
